Museum Day 2020

International Museum Day is celebrated every year on May 18th. This is a holiday to help increase awareness about museums and how they have helped in the development of society. International Museum day was started by the International Council of Museums in 1977. Mark this holiday on your calendars as a day to visit a museum, buy something from a museum, read about museums, look at a museum video and support museums. You can shop at a local museum to help to support museums. Museums sell art, greeting cards, postcards and many other items that would make good gifts. International Museum Day has a 2 Gifty rating. Post about Museum Day on social sites with #MuseumDay or #InternationalMuseumDay hashtags.

This Eames Hang It All Coat Rack is found only at the MOMA Design Store

The coat rack was designed by Charles and Ray Eames, whose work is represented in the Museum’s collection, and it has the same wire welding techniques they developed for manufacturing their wire chair and table bases. The design is childlike in its use of color, and boldly sophisticated in its reinterpretation of the simple coat rack. The coat rack is made by Herman Miller® of painted steel-wire rods capped with painted maple balls. This coat rack is not intended as a toy. The hanging hardware is included.

The Hang-It-All Coat Rack was featured in MoMA’s exhibition Century of the Child: Growing by Design, 1900-2000, an overview of the modernist preoccupation with children and childhood as a paradigm for progressive design thinking. The Museum’s Department of Architecture and Design brings together school architecture, clothing, playgrounds, toys and games, children’s hospitals and safety equipment, nurseries, furniture, and books to examine individual and collective visions for the material world of children.

William Morris Folding Tote Metropolitan Museum Of Art Store
William Morris Pink And Rose Folding Tote $7.00

The motif on this versatile folding tote is adapted from Pink and Rose, an original Morris & Co. wallpaper (ca. 1890) in The Met collection. Perfect for a quick shopping trip or weekend getaway, this handy tote folds up to fit in your purse, briefcase or luggage.

Artful colorations and patterns characterize the designs of William Morris (British, 1834–1896), one of the founders of the Arts and Crafts movement and a forerunner of modern design. This tote’s contemporary take on the pattern updates it in pretty pastels. Click the image or the link for more information or to purchase.
