10 Health Benefits Of Consuming Ginger
Experts share 10 health benefits of consuming ginger. You’ve probably come across the odd looking crooked ginger roots on the shelves of the grocery store and wondered what can anyone do with this weird thing? It may surprise you to know that ginger has been used for its medicinal properties since ancient times. It’s a great source of vitamins, micronutrients and essential oils. If you want to boost your immune system, turn back the hands of time or even lose some weight this root is at your service. We at Bright Side love ginger. So we’ve decided to share some helpful recipes that can be made in the convenience of your own home. Please take note you shouldn’t use ginger if you have cardiac or liver problems, high temperature or damaged mucus membranes and refrain from using ginger if you’re bleeding or in the second and third trimesters of pregnancy. Make sure you’re not allergic to ginger before using any beauty treatments containing ginger extract. Do a test patch on your arm first. If these warnings don’t apply to you then let’s get started.
#10 It Fights Cellulite
A ginger scrub will warm up your skin and improve blood circulation which makes it great for reducing the appearance of unsightly cellulite. It also reduces swelling to prevent new cellulite from forming. You don’t need to run to the store in search of this scrub. You can easily do it yourself at home!
1 Tablespoon Grated Ginger
17 fluid ounces Ginger Juice
1-1 1/2 cups of coarse Sea Salt
Rub this scrub all over your troublesome areas using a sponge
#9 It Strengthens Nails And Helps Them Grow
If your nails are weak and tend to break easily, guess what will help you? You got it, ginger. Well, it’s at least an essential component for this easy to make nail oil.
Easy To Make Nail Oil
1-2 Tablespoons melted Shea Butter
1-2 Teaspoons Avocado Oil
3-5 Drops Patchouli Essential Oil
3-5 Drops Ginger Essential Oil
5-7 Drops Lemon Essential Oil
With so many essential oils you’ll have the nails of a nail model. Mix all the ingredients together and put them in a jar. You can use this mixture as a nail oil or hand cream. Use it regularly at least once or twice a week and the results won’t disappoint you.
Note: This treatment can cause allergies so be careful!
#8 It Boosts Immunity
Ginger contains a high concentration of ascorbic acid, vitamins A and B, zinc, calcium, iodine, natural antibiotics and antimycotics which are basically an antifungal.
Thanks to this power punch of health essentials, ginger strengthens our body and increases our resistance to different illnesses. Here are some recipes that will do wonders for your immunity.
Recipe 1 for Immunity
Firstly you could try adding 1 Teaspoon of grated ginger root to a cup of black or green tea. This simple immune boosting tea will protect you from feeling under the weather.
Slice 2 to 4 lemons and 14 ounces of fresh ginger. Place the slices in a jar and drench them in a cup of honey. Take 1 Tablespoon of this syrup in the morning before breakfast during cold and flu season.
Finally you could start your day with a cup of hot water with grated ginger and fresh lemon. Add one teaspoon of grated ginger and freshly squeezed lemon juice to your water to keep you feeling healthy and energized all day long.
#7 It Reduces Pain
Research published in the Journal of Pain, we know sounds so hard core, has proven that ginger is a perfect pain killer because it’s a natural anti-inflammatory. It works especially well with post workout muscle soreness, menstrual cramps and arthritis. So basically it’s a miracle worker. If you want to fight pain without using pharmaceutical medicine then give this a try.
Take one ginger root, a teaspoon of turmeric, the juice from 2 lemons and 1 teaspoon of honey. Peel the ginger, cut it into thin slices and put it in a big cup. Add the rest of the ingredients and pour boiling hot water into the cup. Let it sit for about 10-20 minutes. After that you can drink it concentrated or dilute it hot or cold with water, it’s up to you!
#6 It Increases Brain Function
Ginger consumption slows down the aging and death of brain cells which means decreased risk of developing neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. What’s more, ginger root improves all cognitive functions and helps keep your memory sharp as a tack.
Sound too good to be true? Check out this study published in The Journal of Evidence-Based Complementary & Alternative Medicine. When a group of healthy middle-aged adults took ginger supplements their memory, attention and reaction showed visible improvement.
Plus, ginger increases the levels of Dopamine and Serotonin, natural chemicals found in your brain. Dopamine is known as the “motivation molecule” because it helps you stay focused and productive. All you procrastinating students out there, take note. It’s responsible also for the brain’s “pleasure-reward” system.
As for serotonin it’s the “happiness hormone” that helps you stay in a good and optimistic mood. Hey, this chemical helps keep you on the “Bright Side” of life! Yeah, we had to say it.
#5 It Has Anti Aging Properties
Ginger contains over 40 vital antioxidants. Among the sea of health boosting molecules there is one in particular effective in slowing down aging. It’s called Gingerol, and it prevents collagen degradation and speeds up cell renewal in your body. It also protects the skin from damage caused by free radicals and toxins. So instead of spending all your hard earned cash on expensive anti aging creams and procedures just pick up some ginger the next time you go grocery shopping.
#4 It Helps With Weight Loss
If you’re familiar with the ancient Indian practice of Ayurveda you might know that ginger root can help control your weight. If you prefer more scientific evidence, here you go, a 2014 study published in the Journal of the Science of Food and Agriculture made the same conclusion. That spicy kick in ginger says it all:
Ginger is packed full of “burning” elements that speed up metabolism and reduce appetite. It’s really good to incorporate fresh ginger in your breakfast and lunch and grated ginger in your drink. If you have your tea with ginger 30 minutes before meals, you’ll eat less food. You can also drink a glass of kefir if you haven’t had it. And it’s kind of like yogurt with grated ginger, cinnamon and a pinch of red pepper. It’ll give you the best results if you do it shortly before going to bed.
#3 It Destroys Cancer Cells
Research has shown the amazing ability of ginger to destroy different types of cancer cells. Michigan University scientists have proven that ginger powder can kill ovarian cancer cells. And it doesn’t stop there. Other types of cancer cells cured by ginger are lung, breast, prostate and colon cancer cells. Remember when we were told about collagen boosting gingerol? Oh yeah, it also cures cancer. Mind blown. So it seems that ginger is the most effective and inexpensive way to prevent this terrible disease. Not to mention it helps cancer patients receiving chemotherapy treatment by reducing nausea and vomiting.
#2 It Helps Get Rid Of Pimples
Ginger is a natural antiseptic which means it can help your skin stay clean and blemish-free. It’s also an effective natural weapon against the bacteria that cause acne. Having acne problems? Don’t worry. Here’s a recipe for an acne fighting mask.
Mix 1 Teaspoon of Grated Ginger, 1 Teaspoon of Honey and some Milk. Apply the mask to your face and leave it on for 10-15 minutes before washing it off. Are you in the market for a spot treatment, too? Try this.
Mix 1 Teaspoon of Grated Ginger Root and 1 Teaspoon of Apple Cider Vinegar. Using a Q-tip, apply the mixture to each pimple to remove inflammation and redness quickly. Hello beautiful skin.
#1 It Stimulates Hair Growth And Prevents Hair Loss And Dandruff
We’ve already mentioned that ginger stimulates blood circulation. Well, this comes in handy for those with thin or balding hair and dry scalp problems. Ginger increases blood flow to the scalp, supplies the roots with nutrients, and stimulates hair growth which in turn prevents hair loss.
Grab a pen and paper because we’ve got lots of recipes if you’re worried about the health of your hair.
First, make a hair straightening mask by combining grated ginger and jojoba oil and massaging it into the hair and scalp. Keep it there for 30 minutes and then rinse it off. It’s that easy.
If you want to stimulate hair growth, spritz some grated ginger and garlic with water and let it sit for a while. Then add some olive or coconut oil and massage it into your roots. Wash if off after 20 to 30 minutes.
Finally, for those tired of dealing with dandruff combine 2 parts freshly grated ginger and 3 parts olive or sesame oil. Apply this mask to your scalp and leave it on for 15 to 25 minutes. Do this twice a week, and bid farewell to those aggravating dandruff flakes! So you see ginger is handy in all forms grated, fresh, as an essential oil. It doesn’t matter. What other uses of ginger do you know?
