Get more fiber by eating more vegetables, fruit, nuts, legumes and natural grains. Don’t eat so much overly processed food which is also more like empty calories. Increasing fiber with more veggies, fruit, legumes and grains will decrease your risk of diabetes and heart disease and prevent constipation.

Try to substitute meat alternatives for meat and dairy alternatives for dairy foods that you eat. The meat and dairy substitutes are light refreshing alternatives to the heavy meat and dairy foods. Many groceries have packaged sliced soy meat and cheese alternative sandwich products. They have soy burgers, soy hot dogs, soy sausage, soy bacon and soy barbecued ribs. They also have soy pepperoni and mozzarella for pizzas. Soy tofu is very versatile and can be combined with many foods to make a variety of dishes including sweet fruit dishes, desserts, sandwiches, casseroles, quiches, scrambled tofu, lasagna and many other delightful meals. Replace butter with margarine or coconut spread.

Reduce the amount of sugar and fat you consume. Sugar is also high calorie and low in nutritional value, or empty calories. When you want a sweet treat try fruit. When grocery shopping buy sweets in individual packages so you eat less when you do eat sweets. Try not to have more than 20 grams of fat a day.

For snacks try the healthier lower calorie vegetarian snack options like soy nuts, vegetable chips, nut crackers and fruit chips. Eat more fruits, vegetables and nuts. They are healthier snacks with more vitamins and less calories.

Try to exercise for 20 minutes at least 4 days a week. The exercise could be as simple as going for a walk, housework, yard work or playing with your kids. It will also be helpful to start a new hobby like knitting or crafts or to read or snap photos more. You’ll be less likely to reach for a snack, a cuppa or a treat when your hands are busy. Your home will seem more cozy with the afghans and crafts you’ve made, your pictures on the wall and a knitting basket.

Another important weight loss tip is to cleanse or detoxify your body. Cleansing will eliminate toxins and chemicals and facilitate the normal functioning of your body.
